Britz Natures Way  

Wind your way through World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park, south through the gold rush town of Pine Creek and on to Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) National Park for a cruise through the spectacular Katherine Gorge before returning to the vibrant city of Darwin.

 

 

 

 

 

Your Itinerary

Day 1: View the abundant birdlife at Fogg Dam.
Depart Darwin and travel 250km to the World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park.

Stop en route at Fogg Dam to spot the amazing array of birdlife. Then head to Windows on the Wetlands Visitors Centre and wander through the interpretive displays.

Head to Jabiru for your first night in Kakadu.

Day 2: Cruise the East Alligator River.
Up early to beat the heat, make your way to Ubirr for spectacular vistas of Arnhem Land, and explore the impressive Aboriginal rock art sites.

Have a picnic lunch under a shady eucalypt before hopping on board a cruise on the East Alligator River to spot crocodiles and admire the majestic white trunks of the gum trees that line the banks.

Visit the Bowali Visitor Centre and learn about Kakadu’s ancient history, before returning to your campsite for a refreshing swim.

Day 3 - Picnic at Anbangbang Billabong.
After a hearty breakfast in your campervan head south for 50km to Nourlangie Rock. Follow the short walking track past ancient Aboriginal rock art then make your way up to Gun-warddehwardde Lookout.

Picnic at Anbangbang Billabong then drive to Cooinda for a sunset cruise on Yellow Water  Billabong (10% discount for Britz customers).  Be sure to visit the Warradjan Cultural Centre.

Camp in your Britz under the stars at one of the nearby campsites.

Day 4 - Exploring Gunlom
Spend the day exploring the Gunlom region. Gunlom is the magical combination of a waterfall and serene plunge pool, with shady gums cooling the picnic areas. A steep climb to the top of the waterfall provides sweeping views of the southern-most parts of Kakadu National Park while you enjoy a relaxing soak in the crystal clear pools.

Day 5: Depart Kakadu to visit Katherine.
Drive to the gold rush town of Pine Creek and visit the historic sights around town.  Enjoy a famous mango smoothie with lunch at Maysie’s Cafe.

Continue south towards Katherine, stopping for a refreshing swim in the pandanus-fringed plunge pool at Leliyn / Edith Falls on the way.

Day 6: Explore Nitmiluk National Park and the Katherine Gorge
There are a number of options to explore the 13 towering sandstone gorges.  Cruise through the gorges where you can learn and appreciate more about the Jawoyn people, the traditional owners of Nitmiluk.

Or, if you’re feeling energetic you can hire a single or double canoe at the first gorge and explore at your own pace. Bushwalking along one of the trails is another option to explore the area. For a birds-eye view you can also take a scenic flight for a ‘big picture’ perspective.

Day 7: Return to Darwin via Litchfield National Park
On your return to Darwin, detour to explore Litchfield National Park which features rugged sandstone escarpments with waterfalls surrounded by monsoon rainforest. Spend the day exploring the numerous bushwalking trails and swimming in crystal-clear waterholes, before returning to your Darwin Caravan Park.
