Travel North from Cairns the Kuranda range to explore the beautiful Atherton Tablelands

1-Cobbold Gorge.jpgTravel south from Cairns and up the Gillies Range to the quaint heritage Village of Yungaburra, where you can stop for a rest, lunch or stay overnight to explore the beautiful Atherton Tablelands – known as “Tropical North Queensland’s food bowl”.

Travel along the Milla Milla waterfall circuit including 5 fabulous falls and opportunities for a swim, before heading on to Ravenshoe where the Kennedy Highway turns into the Savannah Way and you will notice the transition from lush green rainforest to the red colours of the outback.

Stop at Innot Hot Springs Where underground water issues at a temperature of 78C and has been known for years for it’s healing qualities. Travel on through the outback town of Mt. Garnet and through Forty Mile Scrub National Park, before arriving at Undara Volcanic National Park.

Undara contains the remains of the Earth’s longest flow of lava originating from a single volcano, and lava tubes are regarded amongst the largest and longest on the planet. The word Undara is aboritinal and means “a long way”.

There is a range of accommodation available at Undara from railcarriage “rooms” to Safari Tents and general camping. Visit Undara’s website for further information. Make sure you go for a sunset walk and are up early for breakfast with the birds around a camp fire kitchen. A guided lava tube tour is not to be missed.
Take a leisurely travel back to Cairns via Atherton and Mareeba where you can visit the Mareeba Wetlands before driving to the quaint tourist village of Kuranda with it’s alternative markets. Visit Barron falls which is breathtaking during our wet season before driving down the Kuranda Range to Cairns.
